Antara Raman
Illustrator: class of 2025
Antara Raman is an illustrator living and working out of Bangalore, India. Her creativity springs from an interest in history, animals, and sarcastic humour. She draws inspiration from vintage illustration techniques, using mixed media and digital editing to achieve a similar, layered style. When not drawing, Antara can be found moodily plucking away at her electric guitar, feverishly collecting old rock records, or learning Indian classical dance.
“Throughout this mentorship process, Sara has been immeasurably patient, encouraging and generous with her time. She helped me discover new ways of constructing an image that made picture-book making that much more fun, and in the process led me to achieve my goals of developing and refining a visual language that felt unique to me. A lot of our conversations revolved around what constitutes good visual storytelling and creating impactful characters, which have undoubtedly made me a stronger illustrator than I was before the programme. I also benefitted from her knowledge of the publishing industry and references for children’s books, and getting to see her own process of creating so many memorable characters was a dream come true. I’m incredibly grateful that I had the chance to work with Sara, and I still have to pinch myself sometimes to remind myself it actually happened!”
