Exciting news! We’re running a free exhibition at the beautiful Edinburgh Central Library, all about the importance of picture books, featuring brilliantly talented, award winning artists: Catherine Rayner, Chris Haughton, Debi Gliori, Ken Wilson-Max, Lydia Monks, Nick Sharratt, Sara Ogilvie, and Vivian French.
Picture Hooks: Hooked from the Start explores how books read in childhood influence and inspire us in adulthood through displays by some of the best known names in children’s book illustration – their favourite books from childhood and early life, their own recently published works, and never before exhibited original artwork.
PLUS, on Wednesday 12th November, 6-7.30 pm, join Debi Gliori and Sara Ogilvie in conversation with acclaimed writer of picture books, Vivian French.
As a trio, Vivian, Debi and Sara have created over 400 picture books for children of all ages, and with their experience in children’s publishing and a passion for picture book illustration, they will be discussing how the picture books they read and loved in childhood shape their work to this day. This talk will be free but ticketed – secure your space here!
Inspiring for established and emerging illustrators alike – or indeed anyone with a love of picture books, Hooked from the Start: Picture Books and their Lasting Influence will run at Edinburgh Central Library from 4th November-29th December 2025.
