Chris Knight

Illustrator: class of 2021

Though Chris trained as an illustrator, he spent seven years working as graphic designer on projects from branding to animation. But he had a thirst for telling stories and went back to university to study Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. Now graduated, he’s embarking as an author and illustrator, bright-eyed and bushy tailed!

Chris has won a number of awards including the first MA CBI Printmaking Award in 2020.

Chris was mentored by Ross Collins

“The most significant changes for me that have arisen from the Picture Hooks mentorship is how I approach my work and the industry. My mentor, Ross Collins, helped me understand the context in which my work sits, areas my work lends itself to and where my work has the potential to go in the future. Before I started the mentorship I was very unsure of my work, I was primarily a printmaker and fascinated with texture. Ross took me back to basics by seeing potential in the immediacy of my character sketches. We focused on the fundamentals of capturing emotions through posture and expressions – always with an eye on what a character is feeling. Fundamentally, through Ross’ fantastic straight-talking mentoring, and a series of insightful masterclasses, I feel – cliché coming – I have found my voice. I am incredibly fortunate to have been a part of Picture Hooks 2021.”
